I've blown through the ebook, I'll attempt to allay some of the fears we all had about the fluff going forward. I feel Thorpe actually avoided tossing away the spirit of the fluff that had come before, like we all had feared he would. First, I like what he did with Malekith. There is no real redemption attempt. Malekith is exposed as a selfish coward. Had he endured a few more moments in the flames, he would have been reborn as his father had been. Teclis straight up calls him out, saying that had he not been too weak to endure the flames, the elves would have been spared 6000 years of civil war. He gets somewhat better, but he's still a prick. Oh, and Tyrion beats his ass, not once, but twice.
Second, the Asur don't suddenly love Malekith and hate Tyrion. The civil war is more nuanced than Malekith vs Tyrion. In fact, for most of the civil war, Malekith remains in hiding while Imrik does the majority of campaigning. Many of those that side with Imrik are not even aware Malekith is still alive. In addition, it doesn't seem like much of the Asur side with him anyway. Caledor and the Phoenix Guard do, and some parts of the other provinces, but for the most part his army is made up of the professional soldiers of the Druchii and the Asrai led by the Everqueen. The Asur seem to mostly take up Tyrion's side or, in increasing numbers as Tyrion gets crazier, flee to Anar's banner, who stays out of the war. And I think it all works. Once Malekith reveals himself, he starts losing more and more allies because, well, everybody hates Malekith. The final gambit is the unmaking of the Vortex. Tyrion beats Malekith in personal combat for the second time, but Anar intervenes, killing Tyrion. True to character, Anar also shoots Malekith, who only survives thanks to becoming the Incarnation of Shadow.
Finally, here's the big one that I'm sure everyone will hate. As speculated, the unmaking of the Vortex does indeed destroy Ulthuan. The survivors are transported by the Everqueen to Athel Loren. That's pretty much where the book ends. Anar and Malekith, both changed by the final battle, make a tentative peace. However, it is pretty clear that Malekith's ability to unite the survivors is very much in question. On a side note, you never actually see Teclis or Morathi bite it. We'll have to wait and see what End Times: Khaine has to say on the matter. Overall, I like the balance of how they united the elven factions. Everybody loses something big, but also has a big part of the remains. The Dark Elves lose Naggaroth, but Malekith becomes Phoenix King and the Incarnation of Shadow. The Asur lose Ulthuan, but the Everqueen survives to become the Incarnation of Life. The Asrai lose Orion, and it is implied that Ariel merges with the Everqueen, but Athel Loren becomes the home to the remaining elves.
Oh and I have no idea what happened to Morathi or Teclis. Their fates are not mentioned post-Vortex.
Mie considerazioni : - Spoiler:

Adesso accettiamo malekith...

| giaric benvenuto in "End of Times disappointment club"!

- Spoiler:
Alright, let me start by giving you a general appreciation of the story. It was good. It was believable. Most of what you have read as rumours only deal with very imprecise accounts of the actual story. There are two things you have to bare in mind to understand the whole thing: 1) The whole Khaine chapter of the End Times is a civil war. But not a civil war in the way we have known since the Sundering, but rather much more similar to Caledor vs. Malekith up to Maledor. This new civil war is long and actually takes place in two different parts: before Tyrion draws the Widowmaker and after Tyrion draws the Widowmaker (The event is called "The Battle of the Blighted Isle"). Up to this point, the war is quite similar to a normal druchii invasion, with the obvious exception that the DE do not have a place to return to, and with the second exception that all of Caledor sides with Malekith as Teclis and Caledor Dragontamer (in dreams or something) convince Imrik that this is what he has to do to save the elves. From the Battle of the Blighted Isle (a clear victory for Tyrion, from what stands in the novel), the war changes and gets a little bit more complex. But I will explain that later. 2) You have been told that the whole Khaine chapter is a confrontation between Malekith and Tyrion, which is indeed partly true. But this hides that rather Teclis and Morathi are the ones who manipulate the whole situation: Teclis by trying to do what he has found out to be necessary for the survival of the elves; and Morathi being the one who manipulates Tyrion from very early on, turning him to what Aenarion was after the death of the Everqueen. She uses his grief to fill him with the idea that he has to draw the Widowmaker and then manipulates him much in the same way he had manipulated Malekith before: with dreams of grandeur which make him blind to reason (Teclis). The Civil War plays out more or less in the following way: Malekith arrives at the Eagle Gate and takes it easily when Imrik turncoats. From then on, he send Malus and Morathi's representative on his army, a certain Drusula, as baits to draw out Tyrion from Lothern, while his army marches to Chrace and to secure the Blighted Isle (although he never intends to draw the Widowmaker). On Chrace he is held up by a series of of guerilla wars from the hunters of chrace, aided by Alith Anar. He manages to make them face him, but cannot win the battle because dagash comes back to life during it; the battle ends up with a massive raising of dead that make everything chaotic. He learns afterwards from Teclis that Tyrion destroyed the army led by Malus and killed him, after the Ghrond host betrayed Malus and Dursula revealed to actually be Morathi herself. Using Tyrion's grief, she started to exert a maligne influence on Tyrion and to make him obsessed to take the Widowmaker to kill Malekith and then face Chaos. What follows is the Battle of Blight Isle. In summary, Tyrion attacks Malekith's army, which was protecting the sword, and wins. He easily beats Malekith (who had suffered a venom wound from a Morathi- mind controlled Shadowblade), destroys the Destroyer, but is stopped from killing him by the combined efforts of Teclis and Caradryan, who arrives on the battlefield to fulfill his destiny of dying there to save Malekith. But Teclis saves them all and takes them out of there. What happens to Malekith's and Imrik's army is unclear; most likely most of them managed to escape, as Kouran and Imrik survive. Knowing that only Asuryan can beat Khaine, Teclis takes the very badly wounded Malekith to Asuryan's Shrine, which is at that very moment under siege by a still living Aislinn. The Phoenix Guard protects them while Malekith finally finds courage to step into the flame, and survives (although his body is not regenerated, only "his spirit"). Afterwards they make it to Caledor, where they hide (knowing very few would supports Malekith) while Imrik makes war with Tyrion. As Tyrion is still affected by wounds and/or Khaine, he does not make battle yet, which allows Imrik to make significant gains by conquering Eataine. Ulthuan is at this point divided and the civil war has gone chaotic: some HE acknowledge Tyrion as their regent, but many other houses see he has become some kind of monster and pledge to Caledor's cause. In Caledor, the shards of the Destroyer are reforged into a blade that can stand against the Widowmaker. The name it the Blade of Silence after Asuryan's own sword. With Lothern secured, they leave Caledor for Lothern, where after a while Malekith is presented as the new Phoenix King, the one who did survive the flame of Asuryan. Some accept him, others reject him, and the war rages on. After Tyrion rejoins his army, Malekith stats losing the civil war again. At some point Teclis brings news that Orion and Alarielle are back in Averlorn and have rejected Tyrion. Tyrion therefore turns his attention on them. They ponder whether Malekith's army should help them, but conclude it is too risky and they should rather use the chance to consolidate on other realms. Before they can make that, Alarielle herself marches with much of her army (host of Averlorn + WE) on Lothern, enters the city and declares Malekith to be the Phoenix King. She does not do anything else with him yet; just support him. Orion is killed by Tyrion, but manages to wound him. This gives Malekith a pause, but after a while Tyrion takes his place on battle again, and he starts to win the civil war simply because Ulthuan's frenzy grows with the war, what turns many druchii and asur to Tyrion. As a final, desperate measure, Alarielle and Teclis agree on undoing the vortex and guiding the Winds of Magics to mortal supports, imitating what Nagash had already done with the Wind of Death. All of Malekith's army marches on the Isle of the Dead to protect the mages conducting the ritual. Tyrion rides through the whole battle to try to kill Teclis and stop him; Malhandir outruns Seraphon, but when he is about to get there, Malhandir breaks free from Tyrion, realiziing it is not him anymore. Then, Malekith and Tyrion face for the last time and guess what: Tyrion wins again and destroys the Destroyer again! This time though, Malekith wounds him a bit more, but is at least able to stop him until the ritual is complete. At the very same time Alith Anar comes out of the shadows and decides to shoot Tyrion through a hole in his armour caused by an earlier confrontation with Imrik. He kills him. He also shoots Malekith on the back, but does not kill him, because at the same time Malekith and Alarielle become avatars of shadow and life magic. She uses her power to heal him and the Worldroots to take the elves to Athel Loren. There she promises to marry Malekith after the war. Confirmed or almost confirmed deaths: -Tyrion, killed by Alith Anar. -Malus, killed by Tyrion -Orion, killed by Tyrion -Korhil, who had become the main captain of Tyrion but at some points breaks free from Morathi's and Khaine's influence, steals the Widowmaker, but is stopped by Morathi's agents and summarily executed by Tyrion with Korhil's axe. -Morathi, swallowed by the magics released from the Vortex. There are many things which should take place on ET: Khaine which simply are not dealt with here: the novel is only narrated from Malekith's point of view. Many key events are simply informed of (Malus, Korhil or Orion for example). This is also the case regarding what happened with the vortex. We found out later that Morathi tried to stop Teclis but was consumed by the Realm of Chaos. No words on Teclis. Might be clear on ET: Khaine, but my guess is that it is actually a cliffhanger.
